When the eccentricity and the bizarre fantasy of baroque art meet outrageous hands, the result is something able to confuse you. You recognize the iconic elements and the classical language of that period and then, suddenly, you are enraptured by an extremely realistic representation of a moment, an attitude. It’s about the strong power the past has on us and the desire not to change it but just to play with it. It’s classical melting with the present, where both periods are bold, provocative and strong. “Dope Baroque” doesn’t want to be correct, it just pretend to excess.
In this group show, three artists bring you back to the future. Julio Anaya Cabanding gives everybody the chance to bump into classical masterpieces by removing them from the white wall to put them in abandoned locations. Francesco De Molfetta literally shapes reality. His deep and nostalgic soul brings the viewer to wonder about his world: an incredible balance between society and irony. Giampiero Romanò upsets the common aesthetic canons replacing them with something never seen before. A question arises in front of his creations: who I’m looking at?
